Richland-Lexington Airport Commission Elects New Leadership
(Columbia) – The Richland-Lexington Airport Commission has elected Mr. James “Jim” Compton and Mr. James Whitmire as its Chair and Vice Chair respectively. Both men will serve two year terms as the Commission’s top officers.
Chairman Compton was appointed to serve on the Commission by the Lexington County Delegation in 2010. He is a retired relator with Russell and Jeffcoat Realtors and has actively served on a number of boards and commissions throughout his career.
Vice Chairman Whitmire was appointed to serve on the Commission by the Richland County Delegation in 2007. He is the owner of Integrity Tax Services and has been a leader within the community for more than 20 years.
In addition to electing new leadership, the commission welcomes three new members.
Carol Fowler of Fowler Communications who formerly served as Chairwoman of the S.C. Democratic Party was appointed to a four year term by the Columbia City Council and attorney Drelton “DJ” Carson, Jr. from Carson Law Firm was appointed to a four year term by the Richland County Delegation.
Local businessman William “Bill” Dukes was also appointed to a four year term and represents the General Assembly’s Lexington County Delegation. Mr. Dukes is known as owner of the Blue Marlin restaurant in Columbia’s historic downtown Vista and currently serves as Civilian Aide to the Army.
In total, the Commission is composed of twelve members. Five members appointed by the Lexington County Legislative Delegation, five members appointed by the Richland County Legislative Delegation, and two members appointed by Columbia’s City Council. The additional Commission members are Richland County appointees: Hazel L. Bennett and Duane Cooper; Lexington County Appointees: Jerrod “Jerry” F. Howard, Richard McIntyre and Dan P. Bell and City of Columbia Appointee: F. Xavier Starkes.
The Richland-Lexington Airport Commission serves as the governing body of Columbia Metropolitan Airport and holds public meetings at the airport on the third Monday of each month.
