Over 97,000 passengers used the Columbia Metropolitan Airport in April. This represents a 17.7% increase in traffic over the 82,900 passengers who used the airport in April of 2017. Passenger traffic at CAE has seen a 6.7% increase during the first four months of 2018.
“Growing almost 18% shows an overwhelming response to improved airfares and flight options at CAE. We know most residents of the Midlands want to use CAE and the lower airfares that we’re seeing this year is enabling them to do so. As the airlines continue to add capacity on our busiest routes, we expect to see continued growth,” said Mike Gula, Interim Airport Director.
Beginning June 7, American Airlines will introduce mainline jet service between Columbia and the airline’s Dallas/Ft. Worth hub. The twice-daily service, flown with 76-seat regional jets, is being upgraded to 140-seat American Airlines jets. Passengers can connect to over 200 destinations from the Dallas hub.
“American Airlines growing our Dallas capacity by over 75% is a massive vote of confidence in this market, and a great benefit to our region. In this industry, growth generally leads to more growth, so we’re very optimistic that there are more good things to come for CAE,” said Anthony Gilmer, Air Service & Marketing Manager.
